Skateboarding

Today I woke up, and went directly to the gym. After I worked out, talked to some of my friends and chased some girls I met up with my friend Nate and we went skateboarding.

Inlets

Sebastian Krueger is Inlets. He is also is the band My Brightest Diamond (backing up Shara Worden) Sebastian was brought up in Madison, Wisconsin and has been coming up with lo-fi bedroom recording ideas for some time. He has since released an EP entitled Vestibule. This EP is made up of multi-layered recordings, hushed vocals, heart of sleeve imagery and short-timed moments of serenity that seem to bloom into more of an organized sound that presses lightly on the ears, and never seems to go unnoticed.

Ambulance LTD

Since the critically acclaimed LP (released in 2004) NY, New York's Ambulance LTD have only released a single EP titled New English. Though the band was formed in Spanish Harlem, New York in 2000, by singer and guitarist Marcus Congleton , Matt Dublin (bass), Andrew Haskell (keyboards), Benji Lysaght (guitar) and Darren Beckett (drums) all the members other than Marcus have left. (forming The Red Romance)

While rumors speculate a collaboration between the Velvet Underground's John Cale who's last collaboration was Le Bataclan '72 with Lou Reed & Nico, the two people who helped redefine an era and most of all, they got people making music, starting bands, etc.

It's a one man band now, hard to believe but true. Maybe we could see a little light at the end of the tunnel (that is if John Cale is still as bright as we know him to be)

Venice Is Sinking

Venice Is Sinking reign from Athens, Georgia.

They make orchestral pop music fun again.

"Pulaski Heights" is a fine example.

(Oh, and I didn't mean to sound like
orchestral pop music ever wasn't fun)

Jona Bechtolt & Jason Anderson

Since I came across this endearing photo of Jona Bechtolt (left) and Jason Anderson (right) I had to post on them. Considering I made a YACHT post on Where Is Helsinki? late last night you can find many more mp3's there, along with some information on Jona's touring and even Pitchfork Media's Guest List link. Speaking of Helsinki, I might as well post YACHT's Architecture In Helsinki Remixes.

Electrelane

Those four girls out of Brighton, England have done it again.

"No Shouts, No Calls" will debut on April 30th on Too Pure.

Here is the track-listing

The Greater Times (mp3)
To The East (mp3)
After The Call
Tram 2
In Berlin
At Sea
Between The Wolf And The Dog
Saturday
Five
Cut And Run
The Lighthouse

Formed in 1998 Electrelane has released three very subtle but joyus LPs Rock It To The Moon (2002) The Power Out (2004) Axes (2005) and a number of EPs. I would have to say that they could be considered one of the most underrated bands of today. I believe this because they are brilliant, all their work is put together so well and it seems they can take a moment and turn the seconds or minutes into eternities. They don't receive even a percentage of the credit they deserve, but then again, maybe credit isn't what they need.

Also, Arcade Fire really know their music, not to get off topic but, they sure do know who to ask to accompany them on a European tour. Electrelane has all the right aspects to open for a band of the Arcade Fire's stature. Because, Electrelane has the potential to put on just as good as a show as those Canadians. Here are the dates the two bands will be playing together.

03-16 London, England - Brixton Academy
03-17 London, England – Brixton Academy
03-19 Paris, France – Olympia
03-20 Paris, France - Olympia
03-23 Stockholm, Sweden - Circus
03-24 Oslo, Norway - Centrum Scene
03-25 Copenhagen, Denmark - Vega
03-27 Berlin, Germany - Postbanhof
03-28 Munich, Germany - Elserhalle
03-31 Lyon, France - Transbordeur

Cloud Cult / Young Galaxy

Okay, so New York's Mercury Lounge (which happens to be Animal Collective's Panda Bear's favorite venue) is an amazing place to catch a show. With this being said it's obviously going to fall into the hands of the acts playing there to bring forth the full effect of the venue. Over the years many brilliant acts have played this venue, hearts on sleeve and all. But between all the amazing shows and such, if The Mercury Lounge was something you could thank, I would do so. My reasoning would not be because it brings many people happiness and shows off a live act everyday/few days because there are many venues around the world who do so, and then I would have to thank all them as well. It is because they're the sole reason I know about a 6-piece band known as

Cloud Cult

Whenever I want to find out show dates I search all the venues I am within reach of, and usually I find a few shows that I get very stoked about. But, it wasn't until I was browsing

that I came across an up-and-coming act Young Galaxy (who are signed to the ever-promising Arts&Crafts label) that I noticed a band that was playing with them on Sat. April 14th and Sun. April 15th. I had never heard of this band so, I had to check them out. I had never witnessed any hype around them, nor even heard the name "Cloud Cult" get thrown around. But that was exactly what happened me me once I had heard them, I was thrown into a whirlwind of musical brilliance. Once I gained more knowledge on them and noticed that their new album "The Meaning of 8" (revolving aorund an 8 year old deaf-girl) has been noted as one of the best albums, if not the best album of the year, so far, by many "pirates" who have been able to successfully download their new album which is due April 10th.

This is a very special album. "Special" is probably the best word to pin-point this album in terms of depth, efficiency and pure emotion. I don't know another band out today who could put together an album so beautifully, yet so emotionally hip and tragically reocurring*

Happy Valentine's Day

Considering Valentine's Day was made up for greeting-card companies to make profit, I am not so much into the holiday, because personally I do not celebrate it. I'm not the kind of person who won't wish someone a 'Happy Valentine's Day' though. I just don't believe I need a Valentine. Sorry ladies.

Today is the epitome of a "Snow Day". It is snowing right now and it is not stopping anytime soon. All the schools are closed and the weather-man just said that between 3pm and 5pm, it will snow approx. 5 inches/hr. So, I'm not even sure if I will be able to go anywhere tomorrow, let alone today.

So, I might as well start a blog and start posting!
And with my first official post, I bring you...

Frightened Rabbit
w/ a name like that you gotta be good

I chose to start this blog with Frightened Rabbit because along with my all-time favorite band, and way of life, Belle & Sebastian, they are also from Glasgow, Scotland. I have never been there, but I'm sure with bands like this coming out, it sounds like Scotland is a real gas!

Frightened Rabbit consist of :

Scott (guitar, keyboards, vocals)
Grant (drums, vocals, marimba)
Billy (guitar, yamaha, accordion)

The also have two up-coming shows in Austin, Texas
